NOTTING HILL

It is a popular área in London. In Notting Hill you can see beautiful and elegant houses. The most popular party in Notting Hill is the Carnival. You can enjoy the carnival´s celebration in August.

There is a Street market everyday. Thsi market is in Portobello Road and its popular name is Portobello Market. The best day is Saturday. You can buy a lot of things. If you can see a special place you must visit Notting Hill.

PICADILLY CIRCUS

It was built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with the major shopping Street, Picadilly and now links directly to the theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue and with the Haymarket, Coventry Street and Glasshouse Street. Its near the major shopping and enternaiment áreas. Its central location in the heart of the West End has made Picadilly Circus a major meeting point and a best tourist attraction. This intersection is known for its large video screens and neon advertising signs.

ST JAMES PARK

In the thirteenth century a leper hospital was founded, and it is from this hospital that that park took its name St James Park has 23 hectares.

St James Park is bounded by Buckingham Palace to the West, Saint James Palace to the North, The Horse Guards Parade to the East, and Birdcage walk Street to the South. The Park has a small lake with two islands, the West island and the Duck Island, with a resident colony of pelicans. The Blue Bridge across teh lake and you can see the Buckingham Palace. The Swire Fountain is to the North of the Duck Island. To the South of the Duck Island is the Tiffany Fountain on a Pelican Rock.

LEISCESTER SQUARE

It is a pedestrian square in the West End of London. The Square lies within an área bound by Lisle Street, to the North; Charing Cross to the East; Orange Street to the South and Whitcomb Street to the West. the Park in the centre of the square is bound by Cranbourn Street to the North, Leicester Street to the east, Irving Street in the South and a section of road designated simply as Leiscester Square to teh West. It is within the City of Westmister and about equal distance (about 400 yards/370 metres) North of Trafalgar Square, east of Picadilly Circus, West of Covent Garden and South of Cambridge Circus.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE

Buckingham Palace has been  the oficial London Residence and principal workplace of the British monarchy sice Queen Victoria in 1837.

The palace was originally built in 1705

by the Duke of Buckingham. It has 775 romos. Located in the City of Westmister between Green Park, Hyde Park and St James's Park. This palace is also used for great Royal Ceremonies and State visits. This palace and the changing of the guard is visited daily by thousands of tourists.

THE TOWER OF LONDON

The Tower of LOndon is one of the country's most popular tourist attraction. It's a historic castle in Central London and it's her Queen's Royal Palace and Fortress. It's nine hundred years old and it's protected as a World Heritage Site because it has played an important role the English Histoy. The castle was used as a prison for many years, although it has also served as an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie, the home of the Royal Mint, a public records office and the home of teh Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom but it's a museum now. the guardians of the Tower are popularly known as the Beefeaters. In the past they were responsable for looking after the prisoners and safeguarding the British Crown Jewels but now they act as tour guides and they play  the Ceremony of the Keys every day.

HYDE PARK

Hyde Park is one of the most important parks in London. It's in the city centre, in teh West of London. Hyde Park is 350 acres. the park opens every day of the year from 5 a.m. to midnight and it is free. You can get there by bus or subway.

People go to the park to do different activities: jogging, walking, riding, picnics...

Sometimes, there are demonstrations and important concerts in summer: Madonna, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Queen, Pavarotti, Bon Jovi and Coldplay.

There are very interesting places in teh park:

1. Lake Serpentine is in teh middle of the park and people can hire boats there.

2. The Speaker's Corner whcih is a place where people can speak freely about different things: politics, education, wars... and the pólice never say anything.

3, Kensington Garden's and Kensington Palace. They are near Hyde Park. Hyde Park is one of the places that tourists should visit.

VICTORIAN AND ALBERT MUSEUM

The Victorian and Albert Museum is a monument tat you can visit if you go to London. It's a monument to the memory of Queen Victoria's husband. It was built in Westmister. you can enjoy the famous Frieze of Parnassus, a fantastic classic allegorical sculpture. You can also visit the famous Scaliger Tombs in the Cathedral.

Women's International Day

On 8th March we celebrated the Women's International Day. Here are the biographies you have written about some very relevant and interesting women. Read them all as a tribute to those magnificent women so often forgotten by History.

VALENTINA TERESHKOVA

She was the firt woman to travel into space.She is Russian. She traveled aboard the spacecraft Vostk 6 in 1963. She was tenty-six years old. Her nickname was Chaika. She had bad behaviour into spacecraft and the boss os expedition did not allow to drive spacecraft. she has a daughter.
she is now doctor.

CLARA ZETKINClara Zetkin was born on 5th July 1857 in Sajonia (Germany). She married twice and she had two children. She was a teacher and a politician.
She fougt for women´s rights as a important member of a lot parties, committees, foundations and associations.
She was the leader of the new Women´s Office "SPD" and the president of Reichstag, she published the newspaper "Equality" and she decided the first "International Women´s Day" on 8 March 1910 because 129 womens died in a fire in a factory of New York one year before.
She exiled to Zúrich, to Paris and to theSoviet Union for her work and her ideas and she was arrested several times during the war.
She died on 20th June 1933 in Moscú (URSS) when she was 75 years old.

MARIA EVA DUARTE PERON 1919-1935

She was born in the village Los Toldos Buenos Aires in 1919. She was the youngest of five children. They were a poor family.

In 1935 she went looking for work to Buenos Aires then she began working at the theatre and three years later she began working in films too.

 She bought a house in the Posadas street and she began working with the unions and fight for right of women.  It was the beginning of her political career.

She met Juan Peron in January 1944. Five months later they lived together in the street Posadas. Juan was a politician and was imprisioned. 
She brought thousands of people to get their liberacion after that they were married.

In 1946 Juan Peron was eleced president of Argentina.
She always worked for the woman with her husband
She was the first to participe in politics
Women can vote.
She founded de Female Peronist Party
She created the  Eva Peron Foundation.

She wrote some books before falling ill. She died at 20,25 hours 26^th July 1952 when she was 33.
The time always was remenbered for the Argentinians and her body was preserver so here begin another history.

Hypatia of Alexandria

The mathematican and philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria was the daugther of the mathematican Theon Alexandrius.
She was born in 370 b.C (before Christ)
She was educated in Athenas and Italy.
She was one of the first  scientists women in history. She studied the Universe.
She was a teacher of mathematics . She had a lot pupils. She taught maths to studends using modern methods.
She was the inventor of hydrometer.
She played sports every day because se thought it was important to cultivate the body and mind.
Her works disappeared. Some are preserved in the library of Alexandria.
She was killed accused of being against the ideas Christian.

OLYMPE DE GOUGES

Olympe de Gouges was born in 1748. Her name was Marie Gouze. She was from France. Her father was a butcher and her mother was the daughter of a cloth merchant. In 1765 she married Louis Aubry. It wasn´t a marriage of love. Her husband died a year later. In 1970 she moved to Paris with her son, Pierre, and took the name of Olympe de Gouges.

In 1780, after the French Revolution  the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was proclaimed. Women weren´t recognized as citizens with rights.

She was a writer, playwrighter and political activist. She wrote a Declaration of the Rights of Women and of the citizenship  in 1971. It claimed equal rights between men and women.

She died in 1973. She was executed by guillotine after a trial in which she was representing herself.

She was born in Serbia in 1846 and died 1922. Her name was Mileva Maric,

She was an amazing student. She studied mathematics, physics and passed with the best note and she was accepting in a school only for men.

She was the first woman at that school. She also studied Medicine.  

She married a famous scientist and worked side by side with him.

Only few people knew that when her partner showed his work at the Scientific Society, he getting divorce to Maria. He attributed the work to him himself.

She died poor and forgotten.

Wow, I forgot that she was Einstein’s wife.

Amy Johnson - Aviator

Amy Johnson CBE, was a pioneering English aviator. Flying solo or with her husband, Jim Mollison, Johnson set numerous long-distance records during the 1930s. Johnson flew in the Second World War as a part of the Air Transport Auxiliary where she died during a ferry flight.

Anita Roddick - Entrepreneur

Dame Anita Roddick was a British businesswoman, human rights activist and environmental campaigner. She was best known as the founder of The Body Shop, a cosmetics company producing and retailing beauty products that shaped ethical consumerism. The company was one of the first to prohibit the use of ingredients tested on animals and one of the first to promote fair trade with third world countries.

Emmeline Pankhurst - Suffragette

Emmeline Pankhurst was an English political activist and leader of the British suffragette movement, which helped women win right to vote. In 1999, Time Magazine named Pankhurst as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century, stating: "she shaped an idea of women for our time; she shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back".


Jackie Collins - Novelist

Jackie Collins is an English novelist, screenwriter, and former actress. She is the younger sister of actress Joan Collins. To date, she has written 27 novels, all of which have been on the New York Times bestsellers list and have sold over 400 million copies worldwide. Her books are written for an adult audience and have been banned in some countries for being too explicit.

Julie Andrews - Entertainer

Dame Julie Elizabeth Andrews is an English film and stage actress, singer, and author. She is the recipient of Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy, BAFTA, People's Choice Award, Theatre World Award, Screen Actors Guild and Academy Award honours. Andrews was a former British child actress and singer who rose to prominence starring in musicals such as My Fair Lady and Camelot, and in musical films such as Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, the roles for which she is still best-known.


Kelly Holmes - Athlete

Dame Kelly Holmes, DBE is a retired British middle distance athlete. She specialised in the 800 metres and 1500 metres events and won a gold medal for both distances at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She set British records in numerous events and still holds the records over the 600, 800, 1000, and 1500 metres distances.

Mary Quant - Fashion Designer

Mary Quant, OBE, FCSD is a British fashion designer and one of the many designers who took credit for inventing the miniskirt and hot pants. Born to Welsh parents, Quant went to Blackheath High School then studied illustration at Goldsmiths College before taking a career with a couture milliner. She is also famed for her work on pop art in fashion.

Queen Elizabeth II - Queen of England

Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of the the United Kingdom and sixteen independent sovereign states known as the Commonwealth. As well as acting as Head of the Commonwealth, she is also Supreme Governor of the Church of England. As a constitutional monarch, she is politically neutral and by convention her role is largely ceremonial

Norman Robert Foster, British architect whose company maintains an international design practice, Foster + Partners. Foster was raised in Manchester in a working-class family and was intrigued by design and engineering from a young age. His years observing Mancunian architecture subsequently influenced his works, and was inspired to pursue a career in architecture after a treasurer clerk noticed his sketches and interest in Manchester's buildings while he worked at Manchester Town Hall.[1] Foster gained an internship at a local architect's office before submitting a portfolio and winning a place at the University of Manchester School of Architecture. He subsequently won a scholarship to study at the Yale School of Architecture in the United States of America.
