International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Today, 25th November we celebrate the International Day against Domestic Violence. This day has been celebrated since 1999 and the date was chosen to honour the Mirabal sisters who had been killed on that day  in 1960 in the Dominican Republic for their involvement in the fight against the fascist government.

PROCEDIMIENTOS DE EVALUACIÓN DEL ALUMNADO Y CRITERIOS DE CALIFICACIÓN

Estos son los criterios de evaluación que se aprobaron en el Consejo Escolar del pasado viernes.

1º Nivel Básico, 2º Nivel Básico y 1º Nivel Avanzado
Se aplicará la evaluación continua ponderada.
El alumnado será calificado en tres sesiones y cada una de éstas tendrá un valor en el cómputo total, es decir, el resultado de la convocatoria ordinaria será la suma de las notas ponderadas obtenidas en el primer trimestre (10%), en el segundo trimestre (20%) y en la convocatoria ordinaria de junio (70%).
La ponderación se realizará sólo en caso de que habiendo aprobado las evaluaciones del 1º y 2º trimestre, el alumnado no supere la evaluación de la convocatoria ordinaria de junio.
Asistencia a clase:
Para tener derecho a la evaluación continua y poder acceder a la prueba de junio, el alumnado tiene que haber asistido al menos a un 25% de las clases.
El cómputo total de asistencia del curso se realizará a mediados de mayo.
El/la alumno/a que no cumpla los requisitos necesarios para llevar a cabo la evaluación continua, podrá hacer uso de la convocatoria extraordinaria de septiembre.
La evaluación será continua en cuanto que estará inmersa en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje del alumnado con el fin de detectar las dificultades en el momento en que se producen, averiguar sus causas y, en consecuencia, adoptar las medidas necesarias que permitan al alumnado continuar su proceso de aprendizaje.
En cada evaluación, el alumnado recibirá información por parte de su profesor/tutor sobre el progreso de su aprendizaje en cada una de las destrezas evaluables, así como los consejos que el profesor/a considere oportunos hacer constar para conseguir mejorar el rendimiento del alumno/a.
En todos los cursos y niveles se evaluarán las cuatro destrezas
• Expresión con/sin interacción escrita.
• Comprensión de lectura
• Comprensión oral(audición)
• Expresión con/sin interacción oral

Para obtener la calificación de APTO los alumnos tendrán que obtener
un 60 % en cada una de las destrezas evaluadas.
La calificación de cada una de las destrezas será expresada en términos de
superado /no superado.

En la convocatoria extraordinaria de septiembre los alumnos sólo tendrán que examinarse de las destrezas que no hayan sido superadas en la sesión ordinaria.

La expresión del nivel alcanzado será de APTO o NO APTO en la convocatoria de Junio y de APTO, NO APTO o NO PRESENTADO en la convocatoria de Septiembre.

El tratamiento de los libros de lectura queda a criterio de los departamentos didácticos.

Notas aclaratorias

1. No existe evaluación continua en la convocatoria extraordinaria de Septiembre
2. No se guardan las destrezas superadas para el siguiente curso escolar.
3. Cada ejercicio que constituye las pruebas será evaluado y calificado de forma individual.Para superar el curso en su totalidad será necesario haber superado cada una de las destrezas.

How much do you know about Halloween??

"Hallowe'en is a popular festival in many countries all over the world, and every year it seems to get bigger. It's getting dark earlier and it's starting to get cold. Christmas is still a long way away. We need something to cheer us up and take our minds off the fact that winter is nearly here. Find out some more about the traditional festival of Hallowe'en.

The origins of the name

The festival of Hallowe'en has its roots in Celtic and Roman traditions. Over 2,000 years ago the Celts in Britain, Ireland and parts of France celebrated Samhain to mark the beginning of winter. When the Romans invaded, they merged this with Feralia, their celebration of the passing of the dead. As Christianity spread, the Church tried to replace these pagan feasts with official Church holy days. One of these was November 1. It was called All Saints Day, or "All Hallows", and October 31 was known as "All Hallows' Eve", and then Hallowe'en.

Hallowe'en traditions

In the past there was a tradition called "souling". Poor people went around houses asking for food. In exchange, they promised to say prayers for the dead. People no longer go souling, but the habit has been transformed into a modern Hallowe'en game for children in America, who dress up as ghosts, witches and monsters and go around people's houses, asking for sweets. This game is called “Trick or Treat’.

Witches

Hallowe'en wouldn't be fun without witches. Witches have always been part of popular folklore. Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" opens with three witches. A witch was someone - usually a woman - who had special powers and had dealings with the devil. The American town, Salem, in the state of Massachusetts, is famous for the "witchcraft trials", which took place there in 1692.

Pumpkins

The pumpkin has become a symbol of Hallowe'en. People empty a pumpkin, cut a face into the side, and put a candle inside to make a lamp. It's known as a Jack O' Lantern, from an Irish legend about a man called Jack, who made a deal with the devil.

Animals

Black cats, frogs, mice and spiders are just some of the animals associated with Hallowe'en. Generally, the more unpleasant the animal, the stronger the Hallowe'en connection. Nocturnal animals like bats are particular favourites, and if, as is the case with vampire bats, they like drinking blood, they are high on the Hallowe'en list.
